The bookworm strikes again for reasons! Since my first freelogging post about The Perks of Cabal Alz Being a Wallflower, I’ve gone through quite a few books but none caught my attention like Johannes Cabal: The Necromancer by Jonathan L. Howard. Well, actually no, that’s a lie. Doomed Queens: Royal Women Who Met Bad Ends, From Cleopatra to Princess Di by Kris Waldherr was quite a fascinating historical read but nonetheless, Cabal Online Alz won out (sorry ladies.)

This novel (book one of what I hope will be a very long series) is centered around the impressively intelligent, perpetually sarcastic, and ever somber Johannes cabal gold who is, as often put, a necromancer of some little infamy. Johannes, who sold his soul to the devil travels to hell to demand it back from Satan on the grounds that his lack of soul interfere’s with his experiments. Satan, ever bored with the mundane happenings in the scorching underworld strikes a deal with Cabal: the necromancer will be lent a demonic circus to travel the country side and in a years time have one hundred souls signed over to Satan. Only if Cabal completes this task will the king of evil award him his soul back and spare his life. Onward from this point, the novel continues to follow Johannes and his efforts to complete the task in the allotted time.

This novel is a steampunk adventure filled to the brim with laughs, eccentricity, immorality, and very impressive diction. Once again, a British author has stolen my heart and penetrated my mind! Howard is a genius! I would recommend this fantastic work to anyone who appreciates a good laugh at the ridicule of moral and social conventions…and who doesn’t mind a bit of preternatural excitement involving the evil forces.
